Ample Disk Space
Depending on the plan you select you are allowed to store a minimum of 30 MB of
files and emails on your account. Depending on the nature of your design
this will allow you to store hundreds of web pages on the server.
Backup and Restore
While
all SpiderHosts.com Linux servers are backed up several times a week we also
recommend that clients make their own backups for added security. Backups that
you make yourself can prove invaluable in case you accidentally delete an
important file from your site or in the unlikely event your site is
compromised. The control panel allows you to backup your site as often as
you need. The whole web site will then be available for download in
compressed form. Should the need arise, you can use the same compressed file
to restore your site.
CGI-BIN Support (PHP, PERL, C and C ++ support)
The
CGI-BIN is a special folder in your account that allows you to run scripts
or web based programs on your site. Such scripts are usually used in dynamic sites such as search engines or e-commerce sites and allow you
to go beyond the limits of static site.

FrontPage Extensions ready
FrontPage extensions will be very useful if you plan to design and/or
publish your site using Microsoft FrontPage. The extensions allow you to use
those special features and themes that might otherwise not be available
using other design methods. Microsoft FrontPage is normally included with
Microsoft Office. It is an easy to use and inexpensive web design tool that
is as easy to use as a regular text editor.
FTP
account
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the traditional way of uploading files on the net. This
transmission method is usually preferred by advanced users since it allows a
"hands on" approach to the system. Just like FrontPage extensions this
method allows you to update your site any time you wish 24 hours / 7 days
per week.
Web Based Upload
This third publishing method allows you to upload your
files through the control panel without the need of any special software
such as an FTP program or Microsoft FrontPage. You simply select the
files from your computer and hit the upload button. The control panel takes care of
uploading the files to your site. This tool proves particularly useful even
for advanced users in those times when they are away from their computer and
need to make that quick critical update.
WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor
The online file manager also includes a
simple web site editing tool that allows you to edit your pages on the fly
using a simple, yet effective, WYSIWYG editor. This editor allows you to
visually edit your web site through your browser without the need to have
any web design software installed on your computer.
WAP Support
WAP support means that you can create pages for mobile
devices and host them on your site. These pages are generally the only way for someone
browsing through a small mobile phone (with no HTML capable browser) to reach
your site.
Search Engine Submission Tool
The search engine submission tool allows you to
submit your site to the major search engines as often as you want Free of
charge and from the convenience of your site's control panel!
Web Mail
Web Based Email allows you to access your messages when you are
away from your computer. You will be able to read and reply to your messages
directly through your web browser. Invaluable if you are on the road or
traveling and need to access or send emails without the need of using free
email providers.
POP and IMAP Support
POP and IMAP are the protocols that allows you to
retrieve your messages to your personal computer. Using these protocols you
will be able to have your emails delivered directly to your favorite email
client such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora or any other
client.
Email Management
You can create, modify and terminate your email accounts from the
convenience of your control panel.
Default Address (catch all)
The catch all email address will collect any
email that is sent to a non existing email address (if someone spells your
email incorrectly for example). You may choose to read these emails, forward
them to another address or simply delete them. This account helps prevent
accidental email losses.
Email Forwarding
All accounts include unlimited email forwarders. Instead of
creating a physical email account you might decide to forward the messages
to an existing email account. The mail forwarding option allows you to do
just that.
Auto-Responders
If set, an auto-responder will conveniently send
an automated reply to anyone that emails the address where it is set. Very
useful if you want to, for example, let people trying to contact you
know that you are out of town for a while and will be replying to them as
soon as you get back.
MX records modification
Allows you to point your emails to another server
or have them handled by another party.
Spam Filtering (Spam Assassin)
Can be used to conveniently delete incoming spam
messages or mark them with a special flag depending on your preferences.
Mailing List
A mailing list allows you to send a message to
all of your contacts in one go. This is useful if you plan to send newsletters
from
your site. Users are allowed to join and to opt out at any time. Please note
that this tool may only be used to send emails to people who opted to
receive your emails. We have zero tolerance for SPAM. Your are urged to
respect the privacy of other people and help keep the internet SPAM free to
avoid any disruption to your account.
Email Filtering
With this tool you can filter all the unwanted emails based
on their content, their origin or both. Once the filter finds the
information you are trying to block or the email address you do not wish to
receive messages from it simply rejects the email thus leaving your inbox
clean. You can also use this tool to forward email based on certain criteria
as well. The filter can search your messages for the keywords you specify and
the filter will then forward the email as requested.
Password Protection
You can add password protection to any area of your
site. This allows you to create a private area on your site and a list of
users allowed to access it using the usernames and passwords you allocate to
them.
Cron Jobs
Cron Jobs are needed to run periodic tasks on your account. This
feature is of great use to experienced users. For security reasons, this
feature will be disabled by default. If you need access to cron jobs you
will need to contact us and they will be enabled for you Free of Charge.
Parking Page
All new sites are automatically setup with a parking page stating
that the site is under construction. This page disappears automatically the
second you upload a page to your site.
Custom Error Pages
Creating a custom error page allows you to replace the
default "page not found" error and other errors with a page of your own
design.
MIME types and Apache handlers configuration
These will allow you to define
new data types and have your site and email understand them. This feature is
important for thoses experienced users that need to serve non-standard
content on their sites.

These are the CGI programming languages
compatible with your site. You will be able to use any script created using
any of these languages. PERL and PHP are tremendously popular and still
being very actively developed. You are guaranteed to find thousands of
applications written in these languages.
Graphical Usage Statistics
The account includes 2
graphical statistics tools giving you interesting information about the
visitors that viewed your site and about the pages they viewed. You will be
able to know where your visitors are coming from, who is referring them to
your site even what pages they viewed. All in a friendly and graphical user
interface displaying bars and charts for easy comparisons.
Raw Access Log Access
The Raw Access Log is a special file where all the
access to your site is logged. This can be important to you if you wish to
implement your own traffic analysis software.
